When I was 10 years old, I began my dream of being a rockstar. Being the youngest of four boys in the family and growing up in the 80’s, I was constantly exposed to the glam of Metal and excitement of Rock ‘N Roll. I specifically remember putting in Metallica’s “. . .And Justice For All” album and doing a killer Air Guitar concert for an imaginary crowd of 50,000.
I took my first guitar lesson on my 11th birthday. My first guitar was a black Tanara electric with a little Ross amp. I found guitar and music in general came naturally easy to me. My mom was a singer, dancer, songwriter and actress growing up and apparently passed on her creative personality to me.
During my time as a guitarist, I’ve gone through many different style changes as music changed in the last couple of decades. I can sum up those changes by listing the main musical influences in my life in chronological order. They are: Metallica, Rush, Pearl Jam, Live, Counting Crows, 311, Rage, Tool, Dave Matthews, Muse and Avenged Sevenfold. A few of my past bands are Undisclosed, Bennion Road and Stone Jetty.
After 19 years now of constant playing, I’ve had the opportunity of doing a lot of fun things musically like teaching private lessons, recording several albums, touring parts of the nation and auditioning for Limp Biskit. But, I feel that the best times on stage are yet to come with Going Second. And not only have I found an awesome band to play for, I have found four new great friends. -Wes
